Strengthen the feeding and management of dual-purpose sows. First of all, strictly review the construction of the pens. Those that do not meet the standards or fail the acceptance will not be used for breeding. Efforts should be made to improve the quality of the pens and the growth environment. In order to meet the nutritional consumption of dual-purpose sows and maintain appropriate fatness during lactation, feeding management should be strengthened and scientific feeding should be carried out. It is best to use pig B-ultrasound to measure them and then decide whether to keep them.

It is necessary to attach importance to estrus identification. In order to seize the best time for mating, first look at the changes in the vulva and behavior of dual-purpose sows, and then listen to the sows' whining. Of course, it is best to use pig B-ultrasound to check the size of their follicles. The owner presses the back of the estrus sow. If it stands and does not walk, it means that the sow is in estrus; if it runs away as soon as it is pressed, it may have just started to estrus. The size of the follicles should be checked on pig B-ultrasound. Generally, dual-purpose sows have the following manifestations when they are in estrus: the vulva is swollen and red at the earliest, and gradually fades in the middle and late stages. The appropriate time for insemination is when the color of the vulva returns to normal (pink).

To ensure the quality of semen, natural mating methods should be used to understand the age, health status and mating records of the boars, and at the same time ensure that the boars have sufficient time to rest. Generally, multiparous binary sows are in estrus in the morning and mated for the first time in the afternoon. In order to improve the conception rate, they can also be re-mated early the next morning. Virgin binary sows are generally in estrus in the morning and mated in the morning of the next day, or in the afternoon. Of course, it will be more accurate to perform mating after a pig B-ultrasound examination.

Increasing the amount and frequency of insemination. Artificial insemination can increase the amount of insemination during estrus mating: first, increase the amount of insemination per time. Generally speaking, the amount of insemination should be 70-90mL; second, increase the number of inseminations. From the beginning of the sow's acceptance of insemination, insemination should be performed once every 7-10 hours, and 1-2 times in succession. If natural mating is possible, re-mating can increase the conception rate.
