Sheep ultrasound machines can emit ultrasonic waves to detect sheep tissue, and display the image on the screen after receiving the reflection model. Sheep pregnancy testing requires specially trained technicians to determine whether the ewe is pregnant based on ultrasound images.

Early pregnancy in sheep (less than 35 days) is identified by the amniotic fluid bag filling the uterus; However, it is difficult to determine multiple fetuses. It is easier to identify and determine the number of fetuses between 35 and 90 days.

Why conduct ultrasound examination on sheep herds?

Increase the number of lambs on the market: Contact your ewe lambs (6 to 9 months old) with rams for 30 days. Identify non pregnant ewes as early as possible and only retain those ewes that are confirmed to be pregnant. Sheep herds that choose to breed as ewes usually have more lambs and shorter lambing seasons. Pregnant ewes and lambs require different management from the main ewe population, as their nutritional requirements are typically 25% higher than those of mature ewes. Ewes and lambs that are opened before the age of 10 months can be sold as raised lambs because they are young enough to still be graded as lambs after a 45 to 60 day feeding period. In addition, open ewes can be sold as substitutes for low input range sheep businesses, as they typically do not breed ewe lambs.

Reduce lambing labor: Scan the entire ewe herd and group them according to the number of offspring. Empty ewes can be sold on the market or moved to lambing sheds. Single and twin ewes can be classified and placed in separate sheep pens. Single ewes typically require minimal assistance during lambing. Breeders can choose to graze a single group of lambs or in areas different from those of multiparous ewes, and carry out more extensive management, while twin and triplet ewes can graze more densely in drip pens that are inspected and managed more frequently after lambing. This strategy can reduce labor by focusing on multiparous ewes and result in a significant overall lamb survival rate.

Increasing the reproductive rate of grazing sheep: It is difficult for grazing sheep to choose high-yield alternatives because the birth type of lambs is unknown. In most cases, reserve ewes and rams are weaned lambs that are * * * large and * * * healthy. Therefore, this selection method is beneficial for singleton lambs. However, if ewes are scanned and sorted to different lambing pastures, selecting only substitutes from paired pastures will increase the reproductive rate of the flock.

Reducing feed costs for ewes: Removing open ewes is an obvious way to reduce the required amount of feed. However, we often forget that by categorizing singleton and twin ewes or premature and late birth ewes, we can save approximately 25% of winter feed costs. Within 45 days of pregnancy, the feed demand increases by 25%, and ewes with twins require 25% more feed than those with singleton pregnancies. Proper feeding of ewes can not only reduce feed costs, but also increase their health; Monozygotic ewes fed to meet the nutritional needs of twins may become excessively obese. Therefore, obese ewes are at a higher risk of difficulty in lambing, typically producing less milk, and may have difficulty reproducing in the next breeding season.
