The role of bovine B-ultrasonography in the diagnosis of suppurative metritis in cows
Suppurative uterine inflammation of dairy cows is caused by superficial and deeper inflammation of mucous membrane, and its pathological changes are relatively serious and there are mild systemic reactions. The body temperature of the infected cattle increased to 40.0-41.3℃, the spirit was depressed, the appetite was reduced, the estrus cycle was disturbed, and gray white and yellow brown purulent secretions could be seen from the vulina, often attached to the tail root, the ischial tubercle and the hip to form purulent scabs.
The symptoms are particularly obvious when the cow is in estrus, and the sick cow sometimes arches its back, and pus is seen on the cow bed or the ground where the cow is crawling. Vaginal examination found that the external cervical opening was congested, swollen, and sometimes ulcerated, opening about 1-2 fingers, and there was pus accumulation or outflow. If there is no discharge of pus, a sperm transfusion gun can be inserted into the uterus for exploration. When cows were examined by B-ultrasound, the B-ultrasound images of cows in the uterus of cows showed a lot of flocculent medium-echo structures.
Rectal examination felt that the uterine horn was swollen and sinking, the horn wall was thick and uneven, there were fluctuations in touch pressure, and the contraction response was weakened or disappeared. These phenomena would be more obvious when the bovine B-ultrasonography was performed. Sometimes due to swelling and tissue proliferation of the cervical mucosa and become narrow, resulting in purulent secretions deposited in the uterus can not be discharged, resulting in significant enlargement of the uterine horn, uterine wall tension and fluctuations, palpation pain, manifested as looking back at the abdomen or stepping on the hind leg.
Sometimes there is brownish yellow, reddish-brown or grayish-white thin or slightly thick fluid in the uterus. The uterine horn is enlarged during rectal examination. The uterine wall is very thin on palpation and there is obvious fluctuation sensation. Most cattle develop a persistent corpus luteum due to the accumulation of pus in the uterus for a long time. Rectal examination showed that the ovary on one side of the cow was significantly enlarged, rough and hard, and the degree of ovarian enlargement on the Bovine B-ultrasound was also obvious.
