Examination and determination of backfat and follicles in ewes using B-ultrasound
Autumn is the golden season for ewes to estrus and mate. Scientific mating should be carried out for eligible ewes at the appropriate time. During the adaptation period, sheep can use ultrasound to check the production of their follicles, which is the most effective measure to improve the accuracy of ewes and the rate of multiple lambs.
Select breeding sheep, choose ewes with multiple lambs in one litter as breeds, and maintain the breed characteristics of sheep with multiple lambs in one litter. Before mating, fattening should be done, and the sheep's backfat thickness should be measured by B-ultrasound. One month before mating, eligible ewes should receive short-term optimal feeding, with each ewe receiving 0.2-0.25 kilograms of concentrated feed per day. Age appropriate ewes can only have normal estrus and an increase in ovulation through B-ultrasound examination of their fat condition, which can improve their chances of conceiving and having multiple lambs.
Catching autumn fat is a good time for sheep to mate. Regular monitoring of sheep using ultrasound and focusing on autumn fat can significantly increase the number of ovulation in ewes. Rams have strong sexual desire, high-quality semen, increased rates of conception and multiple pregnancies, and ewes have concentrated estrus and more ovulation.
Timely mating, the duration of each estrus in sheep is 24-40 hours, and according to B-ultrasound observation, ovulation time in sheep is usually 30-34 hours after the start of estrus. Therefore, timely mating should be selected 12-25 hours after estrus. Older ewes have a shorter duration of estrus and should be mated early after estrus, while younger ewes have a longer duration of estrus and should be mated later.
Implementing compounding, usually within one estrus period, one mating can result in fertilization and pregnancy. But in order to improve the rates of conception and multiple lambing, sheep can be observed by B-ultrasound. They can be mated twice during the mid to late estrus period of the ewe, or at different stages of the same estrus period, with 2-3 breeding rams mated once each.
