Backfat gauge detects the thickness of cattle's backfat
The operator can use the Backfat meter to detect the backfat thickness of cattle and see three parallel curves that are far away from the center. The outermost layer is the outer surface of animal skin, the middle curve is the boundary between the inner layer of skin and the subcutaneous fat layer, and the innermost line is the boundary between the bottom of subcutaneous fat and the lumbar muscle. The thickness of fat depends on the distance between the fat and the contact surface of the lumbar muscles. You should be able to clearly see the intercostal areas on both sides and at the bottom of the lumbar muscles. When seeing high-quality images, the operator can press the remote end of the probe, scan the keyboard, or use the FREEZE key on the selectable foot switch. Once the image is saved, we can obtain clear and immediate measurement results. The selected area for fat measurement is approximately three-quarters of the eye muscle length. The muscle diameter depends on the distance between the fat and the contact surface of the eye muscles to the inner surface of the eye muscles.
Imported backfat analyzer for detecting backfat thickness in beef cattle
Use the ANIMALSCIENCE function in the menu of the backfat meter to select when measuring fat. Press SELECT, choose BEEF, and then select FATHICKNESS. This will display a cross-section on the screen. Move this cross-section to select the scanning area, measure the fat, and press the SET button. Move the trackball to the outer edge of the fat layer. The animal's backfat thickness is displayed in the box as approximately 0.01 inches or 0.01 cm.
If the skin thickness can be measured between the 12th and 13th ribs, the Backfat gauge probe can be used to measure horizontally or vertically. Fix the cursor on the edge of the outer curve, press the set key, and move the cursor to the outer edge of the middle curve to measure the result.
