The selection method and principles of small tailed Han sheep assisted by backfat analyzer
Selection is the use of a backfat analyzer to purposefully organize the selected excellent breeds of male and female sheep for mating, consciously combining the genetic basis of offspring to achieve the goal of breeding and benefiting sheep. Selection and selection are interrelated, mutually reinforcing, and mutually beneficial. For the purpose of selection, selection verifies the effectiveness of selection; Consolidation of selection and strengthening of selection.
(1) The selection methods include individual selection and pOPUlation selection, which are further divided into quality selection and kinship selection. Population selection is further divided into purebred hybrid breeding. The backfat analyzer will now introduce the method of individual selection.
① Quality selection: It is the selection that considers the similarities and differences in quality between mating partners.
Homogeneous selection: It refers to selecting excellent mating partners with similar traits and performance, in order to obtain offspring with excellent traits from both parents.
Heterogeneity selection: It refers to selecting mates with different characteristics in the main traits, in order to combine the strengths of both sides, create new types of sheep, or correct and improve the weaknesses of the other side with their strengths, so that the offspring can achieve the ideal type in the main traits.
② Kinship selection: It refers to the consideration of the relative distance between the mating parties. Those with closer genetic relationships are called inbreeding, while those without are called outcrossing. Those who have not more than 6 generations of common ancestral mating are considered kinship mating, while those who have more than 6 generations are considered non mating. Conducting inbreeding within a flock of sheep while strictly selecting the best is an effective breeding method for maintaining excellent traits. If the mating is used improperly, the viability of the offspring may decline, the growth and development retardation may decline, the incidence rate may increase, the mortality may increase, and even the deformity may occur. So, in general, inbreeding should be prohibited.

(2) The selection principle of the backfat analyzer is that the ram should be able to improve the original performance of the ewe, correct the shortcomings of the ewe, or change the close blood relationship that is not conducive to the excellent performance of the sheep.
① According to the level of selection: choose the best match, choose the best match, choose the poor match, choose the medium match, choose the poor match. The level of a ram should be higher than that of a ewe, and the lowest level should be the same as that of a ewe, but not lower than that of a ewe.
② Selection by age: Rams should be older than ewes or of the same age as ewes. Mating between young and old is not allowed.
③ Selection based on blood relationship: Male and female sheep with close blood relationship (direct or close relatives) are not suitable for mating
