Four steps to use B-ultrasound to check for retained afterbirth in cattle
When the cow has retained placenta, the cow is examined by B-ultrasound. Surgical removal is effective quickly. The principle of surgical removal is: only sick cows that are easy to remove should be removed. And the removal should be clean without damaging the mother's placenta.
After the cow B-ultrasound examination, the specific four steps are:
(1) The sick cow is restrained in a standing position and first given an enema with warm water. Expel the accumulated feces in the rectum and clean it with hands, then wash the vulva with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution;

(2) Hold the exposed placenta with one hand and insert the other hand into the uterus through the vagina to find the cotyledon. Find the edge of the placenta in the cotyledon, and insert the index finger or thumb between the fetal placenta and the maternal placenta. It can also be done under the guidance of cow B-ultrasound. Slowly separate them; (3) When the fetal placenta and the maternal placenta are half separated, hold the placenta with the thumb, index finger and middle finger, and gently pull it to completely remove it. (4) If the adhesion is tight, it must be peeled off slowly, from near to far. The closer to the tip of the uterine horn, the harder it is to peel off. At this time, under the guidance of the bovine B-ultrasound, the hand performing the operation can search for the placenta in the direction of tighter traction. Operate carefully and strive to remove the complete placenta. When performing the placenta removal operation, it must be peeled off gradually, without missing any, and it cannot be torn off and removed piecemeal at will, otherwise the peeling will not be complete. In particular, the placenta at the tip of the uterine horn cannot be peeled off. At the same time, do not accidentally pull off the mother's placenta, grasp the timing of peeling, do not rinse immediately after the operation, you can give medicine. Try to reduce the number of times the arm is inserted into the vagina to reduce the chance of infection and stimulation to the mother's placenta, and use bovine B-ultrasound to check the recovery of the uterus.
