Veterinary B-ultrasound measurement of back fat, eye muscles, and intramuscular fat
When using veterinary B-ultrasound to measure the back fat and Eye muscle area of breeding pigs, the pigs to be measured are naturally restrained in the restraint pen. The veterinary B-ultrasound measurement of the back fat and eye muscle area should be cleaned and desquamated, the hair should be cut and coated with a coupler. When measuring the back fat, the veterinary B-ultrasound probe water bag is placed horizontally on the pig's back. The probe axis is perpendicular to the midline of the back. And the front scanning line of the veterinary B-ultrasound probe is slightly above the midline of the back to show the strong echo of the spinous process: to measure the eye muscle area, a veterinary B-ultrasound probe with a scanning width of more than 10cm should be used, and a water bag has been placed between the veterinary B-ultrasound probe and the pig's back. Then adjust the contrast, brightness, gain, near-field, and far-field adjustment buttons of the veterinary B-ultrasound machine to obtain a clear ultrasonic section sonogram and freeze the image, and use the electronic distance and area measurement functions to measure fat thickness and eye muscle area. Then use the annotation function to add ear number, breed, age, weight and other information, and finally print or enter the computer for storage.
Clear veterinary B-ultrasound images can clearly show four strong echo points of the spinous process, vertebral body, transverse process and longitudinal fascia of the outer end of the longissimus dorsi muscle, as well as the skin interface, interfat connective tissue, and four strong echo bands of the upper and lower fascia of the longissimus dorsi muscle. The fat layer is a band-shaped solid dark area, and the muscle section is a solid dark area with slightly stronger echoes; the measurement point of fat thickness and eye muscle thickness is 4cm away from the spinous process. The distance between the skin interface and the two strong echo bands of the upper fascia is the fat thickness. On veterinary B-ultrasound, the distance between the strong echo bands of the upper and lower fascia is the solid dark area surrounded by the four strong echo points on both sides and the strong echo bands of the upper and lower fascia.
The back fat thickness and eye muscle area of pigs are directly related to the lean meat rate. As two important indicator parameters in pig genetic breeding and performance identification, they are highly valued, and their accurate determination is of great significance.
