Early evaluation of sow pregnancy using B-ultrasound machine in pigs

One of the obvious pitfalls when using real-time ultrasound is that the timing of diagnosis by pigs using Ultrasound Machines is incorrect. This is crucial, especially on the 24th day, as some sows may start pregnancy without ovulation on the * * * day of mating. Actually, it may only occur in sows between the 22nd and 24th day of pregnancy. At this stage of pregnancy, the limited water in the uterus may result in pregnant sows being classified as non pregnant sows. Therefore, caution should be exercised when diagnosing pregnancy in sows on the 24th day or earlier using a Pig ultrasound machine. If the sow is found to be empty on the 24th day, they should be rechecked a few days later to confirm the diagnosis. However, if the sow is diagnosed as pregnant, there is no need to undergo further testing in the later stages of pregnancy.

At certain stages of pregnancy, the amount of visible fluid may decrease, and a white looking fetus may fuse with surrounding uterine tissue, making pregnancy testing more difficult and prone to errors. The volume of the embryo's urine sac fluid rapidly increases between the 24th and 30th day of pregnancy, and then rapidly decreases between the 35th and 45th day. Meanwhile, as urine decreases, the size of the fetus also increases. Due to a decrease in body fluids and an increase in fetal volume, pregnancy diagnosis based on body fluid imaging may not be accurate on the 40th day of pregnancy. Late pregnancy examinations or real-time ultrasound examinations using pigs between days 38 and 50 may encounter issues, as sows previously identified as pregnant may be incorrectly diagnosed as having an empty pregnancy. If a diagnosis occurs during this period and the sow has been clearly identified as pregnant, further examination is not necessary. However, if it is determined that the sow is pregnant, a second pig ultrasound examination should be performed 50 days later to confirm an earlier diagnosis. If necessary, the management system can be expanded to identify false pregnant sows between 60 and 80 days of gestation. Pig uses B-ultrasound machine to detect the appropriate time for pregnancy testing

Due to the time and quantity of fluid accumulation, as well as the time for fetal bone formation and calcification, the optimal time for diagnosing pig pregnancy with a B-ultrasound machine is 24 to 35 days after breeding. The accuracy of this device is>90%, and it can identify pregnant sows during this period. The average time for diagnosing pigs with a B-ultrasound machine is less than 10 seconds per sow*** The optimal diagnosis is based on fluid accumulation, which starts from day 18 but remains at a low level until about 24 days. Afterwards, between the 24th and 35th day, the fluid volume in early pregnancy reaches its peak. Due to the large amount of fluid and limited interference from embryos and fetuses, the ability to distinguish fluids in the uterus is relatively easy at this time. The pig's uterus is surrounded by a large liquid compartment of the embryo with high echogenicity tissue using an ultrasound machine, presenting a bright white color. Due to the relatively large size of the embryo sac after 24 days (>4.0 cm or~1.5 inches wide) and the significant contrast between the uterus and the fluid, detection becomes relatively fast and reliable. But after the 35th day, the fluid volume temporarily decreases, while the fetus grows and begins to calcify bones. During this period, visualizing pregnancy based on liquid contrast agents from the surrounding uterus is much more difficult and increases the chances and time required for diagnostic errors. The detection of pigs using B-ultrasound Machines has become relatively fast and reliable.
