During the first two months of pregnancy in female yaks, the embryo is in a free state in the uterus and gradually completes the implantation process. The fetus transitions from relying on uterine milk secreted by the endometrium as nutrition to relying on the placenta to absorb nutrients from the mother. At this stage, imported cows need to use ultrasound to observe the condition of the fetus. If any abnormal phenomena are found in the fetus during imported cow ultrasound, prevention can be taken in advance.

The nutritional requirements for the feed are not high, basically the same as during the pregnancy preparation period, and will not be considered separately. The focus is on grazing during the green grass period without supplementing with concentrated feed or with a small amount of supplementation. However, grazing must ensure that the female yak has enough grass to eat and maintain a moderate level of physical condition. If the amount of supplementation during this period is too much, coupled with a high nutritional level in the diet, especially if the energy is too high, it will lead to embryo death, which is not conducive to pregnancy. It is necessary to frequently use imported cattle for B-ultrasound examination of embryo survival status.

When the feeding level is too low, the grass is not enough to eat, and the quality of supplementary feed is poor, the secretion of uterine milk is insufficient, which can also affect the development of embryos and even cause death. This has been confirmed in long-term practical production work. At the same time, in daily grazing management, it is important to avoid female yaks from eating frosty grass, moldy feed, and to avoid the herd of female yaks from running and drinking ice water in fear, not climbing large slopes, and not walking on underground ice trails, in order to prevent early hidden miscarriage. Any abnormalities should be dealt with promptly and properly.

During pregnancy, the growth rate of the fetus is slow before 5 months, and gradually increases from 6-7 months. This period is also during the winter months of January and February on the Qinghai Plateau, when the climate is the coldest and the grass withers. This often leads to fetal underdevelopment, miscarriage, weak physical condition of newborn calves, and insufficient milk production of female yaks due to nutritional deficiencies and improper feeding management. It is necessary to frequently use imported cattle for B-ultrasound examination.

Therefore, relying solely on grazing to consume grass cannot meet the nutritional needs of female yaks. So when the female yak enters the mid pregnancy stage, the type and quantity of supplementary grass and feed should be determined according to the amount of pasture grass in the pasture, so as to ensure the nutritional needs of the female yak in the mid pregnancy stage.
